After working for more than 50 years, this poor man tries to keep his pride while starving in the streets. Social Security provided him with a choice -- "Do I eat, pay my rent, or pay my utilities this month?" The meager check he gets from Social Security does not provide for all three.
Living on the streets is gruesome for the elderly. This 72-year old woman was raped a few months prior to this picture. Everything these people own is either on their backs or in the bags they carry. In some instances, we are able to help before the person is thrown out to the streets.
